Adam Shankman: Renaissance Man

You may know him as one of the judges on So You Think You Can Dance…which means you probably know that Adam Shankman is a  dancer and choreographer. It may surprise you, however, that he didn’t start dancing until the advanced age of 18 — or that he auditioned for the three top dance schools in the USA and was accepted into all of them — without ever having taken a dance class.  He thought he could dance and it turns out he could.  In fact, he dropped out of Julliard to dance in musical theater and in music videos such as Janet Jackson’s Escapade. He choreographed music videos, films (e.g. Boogie Nights) and television programs (e.g. Buffy The Vampire Slayer).

What you may not know is that Adam Shankman is also a respected script doctor in Hollywood.  Or that he’s directed and produced films including The Wedding Planner and Hairspray.  Or that this year he turns his talents to co-producing the 82nd Annual Academy Awards.

With good reason, Adam Shankman thinks he can dance — and choreograph — and write — and direct — and produce — and who knows what other talents he’ll deploy in the future.
