When creating a vision board, do you sometimes feel, as I do, that all these pictures you’re cutting out or downloading just don’t have a whole lot to do with you? For me, the images and goals can seem even more unattainable than before when they come out of luxury magazines. I call it the “yeah, right” factor. I’ve heard people suggest cutting out your own head and putting it on the body in the picture, but that just seems like cheating. Not to mention so, well, analog.
Well, I’m chuffed to announce a fun solution. Check out http://www.photofunia.com , where you can have a blast putting yourself into amazingly lifelike and heroic settings, like on Times Square billboards or museum canvasses ( see the pix of me in this post!). Just choose a template, upload a picture of yourself and go to town. You can then download the finished product to post on facebook, share with your friends, create your own wallpaper, etc. Note that if you want to print the the image for a vision board, use one of the “HD” images to start with so you’ll get a quality result.
There may be other sites on the internet that you can find for this kind of thing; I found Photofunia by typing “your photo on a billboard” into Google. But I have to say it is very easy and free, and I expect to have hours of fun before I look elsewhere.
The bizarre thing is that even though you know it’s just a visual effect, even though you know you’re doing it yourself…it still feels AWESOME to see yourself in these contexts. That’s reason enough to while away a few minutes doing it, but who knows — it just might come true! (Hey, can I have your autograph? 🙂
Tip: You don’t only have to use a straight photo. Virtually any image will work. I intend to create movie posters for my screenplays in Photoshop and eventually upload them to the Times Square shot in this post. Luckily, this one is HD so it will look amazing on my board. Talk about picturing yourself a success!
Idea: If you have a friend you think is amazing, use one of her photos and send your masterpiece to her. I’ve got a mentor couple I intend to surprise with a greeting card in the mail using one of these pictures. I just know it will make their day.
Activity: Find a headshot of yourself (your Facebook profile picture will do) and head on over to Photofunia. Upload it and try it out on at least three templates. (If you don’t smile at least once, there is definitely something wrong with you.) Now download your favorites and print at least one out and put it where you’ll see it often, or make wallpaper out of it on your desktop.

Lisa –
You nailed this topic! Vision Boards are a fantastic tool that I recommend to anyone who wants to hear it. Personally, I have a couple of them, and I have also written about them on my blog.
And I have to thank you for this awesome tool, Photofunia! What a riot! I just spent 15 minutes in the blink of an eye trying out some of their stuff. And again, you are spot on with using something like the billboard with your photo on for the vision board.
Terrific!
Be Well.
Paul.

Hey Paul,
Glad you enjoyed it. I’m especially happy I found this tool because it makes creating new pictures so easy– and I have a challenge with vision boards that they “wear off”…If I see the same thing too often I stop seeing it. This lets me easily add new meaningful images to keep it fresh, and have fun in the process.

Hi Melanie. I can’t believe I actually AM enjoying the Ultimate BLog Challenge as much as I am — I thought I’d feel overwhelmed but it’s actually energizing to “have to” post every day — it make ovethink and taking yourself too seriously impossible. 🙂 The best part is that I used to feel like I didn’t have time to post even once or twice a week and this proves that it’s really not true. It’s only true if I am beinga perfectionist.
