Neil Patrick Harris first came to some of our attentions (those of us who will admit having watched — and being old enough to remember it) as a prepubescent TV doctor and prodigy named Doogie Howser, M.D. Since growing up, he’s shown a lot more of his many talents — particularly those of M.C. and song-and-dance man, demonstrated with great panache on the recent Tony® Awards.

Harris has had a renaissance on TV with his role as the womanizing Barney Stinson in the hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother, as well as playing a fictionalized version of himself in the Harold & Kumar series, and the title role in Joss Whedon’s musical web series Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, among many other acting roles on TV and the stage. He’s also been on the other side of the boards, directing a stage production for the hit musical RENT that ran from August 6 – 8, 2010 at the Hollywood Bowl. An accomplished magician, Harris serves on the Board of Directors of Hollywood’s Magic Castle.

Openly gay and a vocal yet diplomatic activist, Harris became engaged to his partner David Burtka after the Marriage Equality Act passed in New York on June 24, 2011. The couple are expecting twins, so soon, Harris will be able to add “father” to his growing resume.

It’s a long way from 80s teenybopper heartthrob…Harris was named as one of TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people in 2010. As someone who brings so much playfulness and joy to his many talents, he can influence us anytime!
