TV personality, Oscar nominated film actress, Broadway producer, broadcast mogul, magazine publisher, philanthropist and motivator of women everywhere, Oprah Winfrey recently added a new role to her ever-growing list — that of Kennedy Center honoree.

David M. Rubenstein, the center’s chairman, said, “For more than 25 years, Oprah Winfrey has established one of the most innovative careers in the entertainment world, with distinctive accomplishments in television and film,” he said.

He wasn’t kidding.
Oprah started her multi-faceted career as a news anchor in Nashville and Baltimore, where she had her first talk show. She is now one of the most successful and wealthy business executives, with her own network debuting in January. Her acting credits include an Oscar nomination for her work in “The Color Purple.” She later produced the Broadway musical based on the “Purple” movie and book, and produced and starred in the film “Beloved.” In the business world, Winfrey is credited with helping to revive the book industry with her on-air book club, which will resume this month.

All this and she shares her favorite recipes, too.

Most inspiring of all, she overcame a childhood of abuse and still struggles with weight and esteem issues, but she doesn’t let it stop her from using all her talents to the fullest.
